Hey, I'm Kevin, the ADHD nurse — the creator of Very ADHD.

Very ADHD was born after my friends kept bugging me to start teaching online. I love learning and am constantly diving into the most random science research... but only my friends were hearing these random useful facts before (explained in my trademark quirky ADHD style). They kept pushing me to do more. So I built a website, but that wasn't this website.

That was back when I loved in Shenzhen, China. There, I built a health website for expats living in China — teaching people how to stay healthier while surviving China's polluted megacities. It was fun setting that up but about 2 years later COVID killed that website (yes, I lived in China for part of Covid).

I wanted another outlet for my health writing, so part way through the Covid years, after faking some courage, I published my first ADHD tools on Etsy:  "A Very ADHD Declutter Challenge", soon followed by "A Very ADHD Toolbox". And people liked them. They kept rating them 4 or 5 stars, so I kept writing... and I wrote about what I was passionate about. For example:

  • I had had a period years before where I slept terribly, so I had deep-dived into sleep science. That knowledge has become "A Very ADHD Sleep Better Guide". I sleep better now, and hope you can too.
  • Back in Canada, I had struggled with winter depression, so I picked up gratitude journalling. That knowledge is what formed "A Very ADHD Gratitude Journal".  That practice helped me perk up, and I knew it could help others too
  • I'd had a chubby chapter my last year living in China. The knowledge that shook me out of those extra pounds is what is now found in "A Very ADHD Fat Loss Guide".  We all deserve to have healthier bodies.

So that's how Very ADHD was born. I mixed my passion for learning, with my teaching skills, and a lot of ADHD quirkiness. And there's plenty more to do, I always have a list of new ideas moving up the pipeline. Follow my Instagram @VeryADHD to stay in the loop, or shoot me a message via hello@VeryADHD.com if you want to get in touch.

A Bit Longer Bio

(it sure is weird to write your own bio)

Born in Australia and raised in Canada, I grew up without even knowing I had ADHD. I thought I was just a very quirky kid. It wasn't until I started university that I got diagnosed with combined-type ADHD. Surprise!

University was extra tough with ADHD, but I survived thanks to some very passionate professors who made the content fun, and by figuring out how to make my ADHD work for me—learning how to use hyperfocus like a superpower, channel my boundless energy, and make learning more ADHD-friendly.

Having ADHD, it was hard to settle on a career choice. I had dreams of being an architect but couldn't stomach 7+ years of schooling. Cooking was fun, but the lifestyle of a chef didn't seem to fit me. Pharmacy seemed neat but turned out to be... kinda dull. I even job-shadowed a biotechnology researcher using gene-editing CRISPR technology to play with glowing jellyfish DNA—super cool, but too isolating (I need people, not just jellyfish). So, nursing it was! I had great grades in biology and chemistry, awesome people skills, and a fascination with blood and guts.

Nursing has been a great choice. There are so many different careers under the nursing umbrella that I'll never get bored. I've worked everywhere from the Emergency Department (my fave) to operating rooms, remote community health clinics, medical research jobs, project management jobs, and even a short gig with a medical robots company in Shenzhen, China. My favorite roles have involved a lot of teaching and presenting. I’ve learned to follow my passions and stay in roles that keep me challenged—because I love to constantly learn. Currently, I work at a large urban hospital across several departments like Emergency, Radiology, and Patient Flow.

Outside of work, I love to travel, get creative, and stay active. I've collected too many hobbies like drawing, surfing, board games, and badminton. I love relaxing at the beach and tending to my jungle of succulent plants. That, and traveling. My favorite destinations include Iceland, Thailand, and Japan. Oh, and I've had too many pets, including a giant poodle, several cats, hermit crabs, and a lot of pretty fish.

There, that seems like I've written enough about myself. That was weird. Can we talk about something else now?
